Research

frog Yupukari village not only welcomes and supports scientific study but is also pursuing its own ongoing community based monitoring programmes. To date these include inquiries into the ecology of Black Caiman, the identification and mapping of important bird areas, the collection and survey of local small herps using pit traps and transect walks, and the identification and description of local trees in Latin nomenclature, English, Portuguese, and Macushi language. Work is carried out by youth, Yupukari wildlife club members and local village experts.

These and other activities will build capacity for local environmental education, guiding and the production of a long view resource management planning strategy.

Currently our efforts are supported in part by the IUCN. We have also been supported by SeaWorld Busch Gardens Conservation Fund and the St. Louis Zoo.
