Rupununi Tours
We have designed three itineraries for people wishing to visit Caiman House Field Station or experience Caiman Catching as part of a Rupununi tour:
- Rupununi Sampler -The least strenuous of the three itineraries, hitting many of the high points of Rupununi touring.
- Kanuku Experience - A four-day camping trip in the middle of this itinerary offers a mix of more- and less-demanding activities.
- Lower Rewa Adventure - For those who enjoy "roughing it" and its
rewards.
Ecotourism
The building of a guest house at Caiman House Field Station has come about through the convergence of many factors:
- The need for an income stream to support day-to-day literacy activities and expenses, as well as ongoing wildlife research
- The desirability of ecotourism as a sustainable source of income for remote communities
- The presence of other, growing ecotourist businesses in the region
- The general consensus in Yupukari that villagers are interested in exploring ecotourism as an economic benefit to their residents and community
- Visitor interest in observing and participating in black caiman capture
- The relative comfort of Caiman House Field Station as a feasible place for visitors to stay in Yupukari.
